The Chillum-Adelphi VFD was selected from a pool of far more qualified applicants to receive a FIRE Act grant from the Department of Homeland Security. Uncle Sam is going to give us 52000 to upgrade our mutual aid communications capabilities. The CAVFD will purchase mobile and portable radios that will allow us to operate with surrounding departments. In fact thanks to the American taxpayer we will be able to communicate better with Fairfax County Virginia than we can with our own Prince Georges County. Seriously though with this grant our department will be able to seamlessly operate on the scene of any emergency in the Washington DC area. In the event of a natural or man made disaster the CAVFD will be uniquely prepared to respond to any department that requests mutual aid.
