The CAVFD is a volunteer fire department in the Chillum-Adelphi / Langley Park region of Prince George’s County Maryland. The "Bomberos de Langley Park" provide primary fire and ambulance service to a 3.5 square mile area, which is home to over 65,000 people.
Our Box Alarm district includes portions of College Park, The University of Maryland, Hyattsville, and Takoma Park. Its distinctly diverse population, high population density, and high call volume characterizes our first due. In addition to the typical 1 and 2 story single family dwellings, we have one of the largest concentrations of garden-style apartments per square mile on the east coast, and are also first due to the National Archives and to multi-family apartment buildings up to 20 stories in height.

Chillum-Adelphi is unique in the sense that the majority of the day-to-day staffing is provided by live-in volunteer firefighters. Much like other departments in this region, firefighters are given a free place to live, complete with cable TV, high speed internet, and other perks, in exchange for their services as firefighter/EMTs.
It is said that one year living in the bunkroom is equitable to five years working or volunteering somewhere else…with over 7000 calls per year, you do the math! The volunteers at Company 34 are some of the most dedicated and hard working firefighters around.
