The decision to become a volunteer firefighter with the Chillum-Adelphi VFD is an important one. Many excellent firefighters got their start at the CAVFD, and quite a few continue to come back and ride, even after being at it for 20 or 30 years. If you want to earn your way into our brotherhood, here is what you will need to do to get started:
1. Fill out the online application and come to the station for a ride along.

The online application is right on the front of our homepage. After you fill it out, a member of the CAVFD Membership Committee will contact you to discuss your membership and schedule a ride-along. The ride-along is an important first step, as being a firefighter at Co. 34 may not be the right fit for everyone.
2. Fill out the county in-person application.
This can be done in the station, with assistance from our membership chair. Typically this is accomplished during the ride-along period.
3. Wait for background check results.
This is completed by Prince George’s County and required no action on the part of the applicant. After your background check comes back and your physical is scheduled, you may be voted in as a member of the CAVFD.

4. Take a county physical examination.
This is simply a medical exam, and is NOT an agility test. This must be accomplished at a facility specified by Prince George’s County.
5. Receive County ID Number.
After you obtain this number from our Membership Chair, you will be a fully operational member of the fire department.
