The CAVFD is actively looking for new members to join our organization. There are many benefits to joining the CAVFD, including education, training, experience, and even free housing, depending on the type of membership that you hold with our department.

There are a few simple requirements and procedures that are common to all types of memberships in the department. These are:

- Must be at 16 years of age or older

- For new members, no previous experience or certifications are required


- County membership procedures include the following:

  • Application packet
  • Background check
  • Physical Examination

- New members must complete Volunteer Recruit School
  • Two weeks long, held once per month
  • Class is on Tuesday and Thursday at 1900 and Saturday mornings at 0800
  • Covers such topics as Infectious Control, CPR, and other basic topics

- Members will then complete their Maryland EMT and Firefighter I classes


- After these classes are finished, members are open to take any MFRI course available
